Well what a week for technology – let’s have a look at some of the highlights.
Apple -they know how to make an announcement don’t they?! Most of us were excited at the idea of an iPhone 8 – but 8 shmate – look at the iPhone X – wowzers. This is one super sexy iPhone – with its all glass design, 5.8″ super retina display, wireless charging and TrueDepth camera – which is now how you unlock the phone as there is no home button. The cameras have been designed to facilitate some wonderful Augmented Reality experiences – thanks to accurate motion tracking and a whole host more features. With a price tag of nearly £1000 it is certainly a considered purchase. If you fancy it – it’s available for pre-order on October 27th (and in-store November 3rd).
We want to wish the iRobot Roomba a happy 15th birthday. I remember when it launched for the first time and always have fond memories of it. In fact – my audition to become the Gadget Guru on BBC2’s Something for the Weekend featured the Roomba. So as a shirker of housework I’d like to raise a glass to the automated vacuum cleaner that has won our hearts – all 20 million of them.
Finally – I’ve learnt of a great awards programme launched by Debbie Gilbert called Best Business Women Awards. Founded in 2015 the awards recognise and reward female business talent across a variety of sectors. I can totally identify with Debbie’s rationale for the awards, and attitude to work. She says, “Success for some is about huge incomes but for a growing number of people success is about enabling a work life balance, spending time with family whilst being able to earn an income doing something you love.” Congratulations to this year’s finalists and good luck.
